I've been struggling for the last two and a half months with my writing. I was at a total standstill. It wasn't really writer's block because I knew what I wanted to write, it was something more. Call it lack of motivation, procrastination, depression or a combination of all three. I think the biggest issue was that I was out of work, didn't have any money coming in and living on a limited income from my husband (who is retired). It put a lot of strain on the household. So, my days were spent looking for a job and just moping around, to be honest.
But, good news! I got a job and started working just a few days ago! And my muse came back the night before I was to start. I was doing the happy dance! Once I knew I had a job and everything was right with the world (for now, anyway), I just started writing the next scene and wrote 1984 words in 1.5 hours! Of course, I haven't written a word in two days because I've been working on another project that I really want to get out in a month's time. It's writing-related but not fiction. It's non-fiction--a how-to sort of manual. I don't want to give away too much right now. Not until it's complete and ready to go on sale! I'm excited and can't wait to share it with you.
Meanwhile, my story is about 60% done. Right now, my story could be 100K words or more, but I only want it to be between 80K and 90K, so I'll have a lot of editing to do. I tend to over-write and I'm a pantser, not a plotter, therefore, I sometimes go astray and meander and lose focus on my story.
At this point, I think I may have to go back, plot out my scenes and make sure everything is going in logical order. If not, God knows how long this story will be! And, it doesn't help that I have so many other ideas and I want to write those stories as well. But, I'm determined that this story will be published by summer and then I'll work on a Christmas novella to be out in November. Meanwhile I have two other stories in the works.
Thanks for stopping by!
